The Children’s Ministry at Skyline Baptist Church could not function without a large group of committed volunteers who love children and desire to see them grow up to follow Christ for a lifetime. There are many different ways to serve depending on your gifting and availability.
If you are interested in learning more about any of these opportunities, please contact Children’s Ministry Director, Loy Huntzinger, via our Contact Page or at 541/756-3311 x26.
Here is a list of current needs in the Children’s Ministry.
Check In: Welcome and check students in at the beginning of second service.
Shadow: Work one on one with a student with special needs during Sunday School and/or Awana on Wednesday nights.
Nursery & Toddler Ministry: Taking care of the little ones, rocking babies and playing with toddlers.
- Commitment: Once a month, one service.
- Need: There are opportunities to serve during either service, but the need is greater for help during second service.
Nursery & Toddler Substitutes: Fill in for sick or out of town nursery workers
- Commitment: as needed
Sunday School Helper: Assist in one of the five classes. Build a relationship with the kids, help maintain order, assist with crafts, etc. No preparation required. Come and enjoy the children! This is an essential role for the Sunday school classes to run effectively.
- Commitment: Once a month, second service. Substitutes also needed.
- Need: varies from quarter to quarter
Sunday School Teacher: Using the curriculum provided, prepare to teach God’s word. Lead other classroom activities such as games, crafts, prayer, and other activities that correspond to the lesson.
- Commitment: Weekly or twice a month.
- Need: Currently all classes are staffed with excellent teachers except for the pre-k class needs a teacher for one or two Sundays a month. Substituting or helping is a great way to explore future involvement as a weekly teacher.
Substitute Teacher: Same duties as Sunday School teacher
- Commitment: as needed
AWANA: There is always a need for more people to get involved with AWANA by being a verse listener. This is a very enjoyable way to spend a few minutes of your week – listening to children recite the scriptures they have memorized. No preparation is required. Come as you are!
Good News Club: Helpers are needed to spend time with Hillcrest Elementary students on Wednesdays from 2 to 4 at Skyline. This is a wonderful time to encourage children through games, Bible study, snacks, and homework help. No preparation needed. Just come and hang out with kids. We also need a volunteer to drive the church van each Wednesday to take a few children home after Good News Club.
