I have heard it said that the only thing worse than thinking everyone’s talking about you is to realize that no one is.  Our contemporary culture encourages us to be consumed with thoughts of self – to be preoccupied with affirming self, protecting self, and promoting self.  The prevailing secular thought is that if everyone had high self-esteem, there would be no relational conflict or social problems.
