While a relatively short book, the epistle of First John is incredibly profound. It is a letter written by the apostle John (words inspired by the Holy Spirit of God; 2Tim.3:16; 2Pet.1:21), to encourage and exhort Christians in their Christian walk. He wanted them to examine the faith they professed to see if it was genuine, in hopes of encouraging them with the assurance of their salvation: “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life” (1Jn.5:13).
