Some worship songs are declarations of praise to God. Other worship songs are dedicated prayers to God. Still other worship songs resound doctrinal truths about God. And, of course, some worship songs are a combination of these three.
This is the driving truth behind such verses as Ephesians 5:18-19, “… be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart.” True worship songs are not primarily about us (the worshipper), but about God as the subject and object of our worship.
