One of my most all-time-favorite dead people is J.C. Ryle (May 10, 1816 - June 10, 1900).  In 1880, Ryle became the first bishop of Liverpool.  He was a faithful man of God, who displayed a fierce loyalty to the truth of God’s Word.  Though deeply compassionate, Ryle was also unyieldingly courageous.  His successor in Liverpool described him as “the man of granite with the heart of a child.”
