We live in the midst of a spiritual battle, facing attacks from all sides, from within and from without. Make no mistake, Satan is out to deceive us (Jn.8:44; 2Cor.11:14), seduce us (Matt.4:1; 1Thess.3:5), and destroy us (Jn.8:44; 1Pet.5:8). The devil is, by his very name, diabolical. Unlike the often-used laughable depiction of him – as a red, pitchfork carrying, long-tailed, prone to tantrums but ultimately harmless cartoon figure – Satan is a formidable foe (ultimately invincible to humans apart from God’s intervention).
