After having an incredible coaching career at the University of Oklahoma, Bud Wilkerson responded to a request to head up the President’s Council on Physical Fitness.  After a year on the job, he called a press conference.  One of the reporters asked him why football is good for this country.  Everyone expected a ten-minute pep-talk on the greatness of football.  Wilkerson’s response was shocking.  “Football,” he said, “is terrible for this country.”  Why?  “Football is 80,000 men desperately in need of exercise watching twenty-two men desperately in need of rest.”
